Check Out My Grille

I test drive several Lexus vehicles every year, and I consider myself pretty lucky.  I’ve seen some changes in 28 years; the most dramatic externally is the new front grille.  This more aggressive look adds to the overall styling and with the performance vehicles they’ve added, the grille is a fashion statement.

I remember the first time I even heard about Lexus… it was 1990 and my new assistant from California pulled up in a Lexus LS400.  She said “meet my Lexus” this brand will kick butt in the luxury category.  Needless to say, Lexus went on to introduce the ES, SC, GS and IS.  Then came the LX, GX and RX Luxury Utility Vehicles. And now the hybrids RX, GS, LS ES and CT models.  In the performance arena you have the LFA, IS and a line of track-proven F SPORT performance accessories.

This week I tested the 2017 ES 350 Sedan and enjoyed taking it to various locations to see if it could keep up with my busy life.  A visit to COX Media with my buddy Wally Cahill was up first and as you can see in the video, the spacious backseat and the trunk are two of my “must- haves”.  2017 Lexus ES 350 Sedan Video

Under the hood is the 3.5 liter V6, which is considered a world-class engine with compelling acceleration.  The overall performance of this vehicle is stellar whether on the freeway or steering on side roads to get to the pumpkin farm.

Its rivals are the Acura TLX, Buick Lacrosse, and the Genesis G80, but somehow that Lexus (only 28 years young ) leads the shopping list in this category.

For me, it’s all about versatility … Can it go to the country club, supermarket, sports events, transport the grandkids, auto dealer visits and can it hold my red heels, books, and friends?

This sedan has it all and has one of the lowest base prices in its class… starting at $38,900.

I guess my friend was right about LEXUS kicking butt.  She recently purchased a 2017 Lexus RX Utility Vehicle. She had her LS400 for 12 years and our friendship from the day she pulled up in that car.  Is this where I say “we’ve come a long way baby?” Well, Lexus sure has.

Vehicle as tested: $43,990
