THREE GIRLS… FROZEN AND THE TIGUAN

I live in a house with three girls under the age of 10.  If you know anything about raising three little darlings in this day and age, your house will have the following accessible at any time.  The first necessity, dress up clothes that range from Elsa to Snow White.  A fashion show can happen on a moment’s notice, so be prepared.  The second necessity, beads.  Beads to make necklaces, bracelets, key chains, rings, and beads just to leave all over the playroom so I can clean them up!  Lastly, the movie, FROZEN.  This movie is shown at least twice a week in my house. Frozen has become a rite of passage for these girls and gives them immense joy, especially when trying to get well from a cold, a skinned knee, preventing potential disagreements, and gives mom major cleaning time for!

Frozen reminds me of a lot of things these days.  For example, another nor’easter hitting NY and me being very thankful I no longer live there.  Also, the phrase, “let it go,” has been a huge influence when picking my battles with the girls.  Lastly, when test driving the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0T S this week, I figured what an amazing opportunity to drive it up to the snow two hours north of home (knowing that I will be back to beautiful Spring weather later that day!).

The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0T S is a smaller crossover compared to Volkswagen’s other crossover vehicles.  However, it does have an additional 10 inches in length to accommodate the option of a third row seat, which does appeal to larger families.  There is a smaller cargo area in the rear area, so storage can be a challenge, but we decided to “let it go,” because of the roof rails.  All snow gear rides on top!

Standard features on this vehicle include, 17-inch alloy rims, halogen headlamps with daytime running lamps, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, manual climate control, rearview camera, cruise control and electronic parking brake, as well as the bumping six-speaker audio system that played “Love is an Open Door,” at a comfortable volume for all of us (that would be super loud volume!).

The interior of the Tiguan is very functional.  The choice of cloth seats can make the summers in Arizona tolerable, but kids will be kids and cleaning leather upholstery is definitely easier.  Have you ever tried getting chocolate ice cream out of cloth?  Not fun.  On our way up north, the scenery goes from Saguaros to pine trees in less than an hour.  It is very magical and the comfort of the Tiguan made our journey very enjoyable.  The manual seat controls are super easy to use and the lower lumbar support of the front seat, made driving the distance pleasant.

Driving through the mountains with all the twists and turns, along with the wintery mix weather, is not something I am used to, but with the amount of safety features in the Tiguan 2.0T S, it never really crossed my mind.  This vehicle comes with six airbags, stability/traction control, antilock brakes, an intelligent crash system that automatically cuts off the fuel, unlocks the doors and illuminates the interior light in the event of a serious collision, as well as tire pressure monitoring.  The standard VW Car-Net includes smart phone interface and automatic crash notification of first responders.

Once we got to our destination, parking our vehicle was definitely not a challenge, even in the snow.  An electric power steering system produces ample assist at low speeds for maneuverability in crowded locations.  Visibility around the car’s perimeter is good.  The rearview camera makes it easier to back out of slots in busy parking lots. I guess we weren’t the only family who wanted to build a snowman!

Overall, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0T S is a great family vehicle.  It has a ton of safety features that will make everyone feel safe whether you are driving to ski or surf.  The car itself has sleek lines and boasts a beautiful style.  The girls and I give this vehicle two snowflakes up!
