2022 GMC Hummer EV

Event- By: Cathy Droz

What an amazing event and experience I had in Scottsdale, Arizona this past March. GMC invited me to experience two days exploring and discovering the 2022 GMC Hummer, all-electric “supertruck.”  Over 650,000 people have laid down $100.00 each to reserve their Hummer, so let’s hope there is enough to go around.

I met the engineers who designed this phenomenal beauty and even raced from point A to point B with full pedal on the gas and slam on the brakes at the end; it was something else. I met with the Bose system designers explaining how Bose and GMC were able to make you feel via vibrations and sounds like you are in a “supertruck” and not an-all electric Nissan. I’m fascinated by the technology, engineering and even the tires on this Hummer.

I was overly impressed (first scared) to experience Super Cruise.  You see you press a few buttons and switches, and you are on cruise, and you can let go of the wheel. You don’t look away because the minute you do (like look at your phone) it goes back to manual steering.  However, the best was when the engineer said “put your blinker on to go in the lane to your right…” I did that and sure enough it merged into the lane next to me. The next test was… wait until a vehicle is next to you, now put on the blinker… I didn’t move, it stayed in the lane.  The sensors would not allow it to move. AMAZING!!!!

In the desert we climbed hills, down craters and experienced all kinds of rocks and boulders in the washes that were far out in the desert.  We had walkie talkies because our basecamp was a distance from the peek of the mountain we drove to. (See the video.)

I was part of a select group of super journalists – Autoweek, Latinology, Automotive News, Lauren Fix, Wards, ABC News, Bloomberg, Businessweek, Autotrader, YouTube and CNBC. I don’t know how I got in there, HER Certified but I was honored and impressed.
